Green Violet-Ear
Colibri thalassinus

6 June 2003
near Johnson City, Blanco County, Texas, USA
Nikon Coolpix 5700

Vahn Adams was gracious enough to allow birders onto his property to view a pair of cooperative Green Violet-Ears that had taken residence there. Only one individual showed itself during my visit. The bird would fly in from its hiding spot in the nearby trees and land on a branch on the outskirts of the yard. After a minute or two it would fly down and feed for 1 to 2 minutes at the feeder, chasing away the smaller Archilochus hummers.
